Born September 8, 1940 in Brooklyn. Jacks life was normal. He went to public school and lived in a six story apartment with
his mother and father and younger brother. He was part Jewish, Irish, and Italian. He was influenced by everything. Everything he saw or he heard became a poem. Several toys in his studio have turned into poems. He says he remembers things that happened when he was a kid, like the day his new baby brother came home with his mother from the hospital. He writes about things he liked or didn't like. He loves spaghetti and wrote a poem about it. He has many interests besides writing poetry. He enjoys photography, carpentry, creating games, collages, and sculpturing. Lately he's been teaching him self to draw and create multimedia on the computer.
He also collects art, children's poetry books, and frog miniatures. He studied classical music as a young man and still attend the opera and symphony whenever he get the chance. He also loves to eat out.

Reflection and Poems
Louder Than a Clap of Thunder
Louder than a clap of thunder,
louder than an eagle screams,
louder than a dragon blunders,
or a dozen football teams,
louder than a four alarmer,
or a rushing waterfall,
louder than a knight in armor
jumping from a ten-foot wall.
Louder than an earthquake rumbles,
louder than a tidal wave,
louder than an ogre grumbles
as he stumbles through his cave,
louder than stampeding cattle,
louder than a cannon roars,
louder than a giant's rattle,
that's how loud my father SNORES!
Jake is saying a lot of things in this poem about loudness. He uses a lot of rhyme. He is saying that lot of things can be louder than this or that. He is expressing how he feels in the poem. He was always a jealous man. When i say this i mean he was always kind of jealous of his brother. Jack always wrote about anything that was out there. For example he would write about thing he liked or didn't like. Everything he saw or heard became an inspiration to him. When I read jacks poems I sometimes feel emotion , but some I dont really understand the emothion. In this poem i felt that he was happy for some reason. I could tell he was happy because this poem was funny to me.
Nine Mice on tiny tricycles
went riding on the ice,
they rode in spite of warning signs,
they rode despite advice
The signs were right, the ice was thin,
in half a trice, the mice fell in,
and from their chin down to their toes
those mice entirely froze.
Nine mindless mice, who paid the price,
are thawing slowly by the ice
still sitting on their tricycles
…nine white and shiny micicles

Jack Prelutsky poems are great for children. For example the poem nine mice was very fun to read it talks about nine mice that were riding there tricycles and they didn't see the warning signs so they fell in the ice and froze. At first i thought to my self why would a person write about nine mice than i kept on reading and i started laughing it was fun to read and easy to understand not like most poems. Jack Prelutsky poems creates a sense of imagery in children's minds that's why its fun to read his poetry. I think its great that he got his inspiration by everything he saw and heard. this poem teaches children to read the warning signs before making a move.
